After a terrible accident destroyed his limb, an Indian agricultural hand in Italy's Latina area was left abandoned on the roadside. Reportedly by AFP, Satnam Singh was hurt on Monday while working on a farm in Latina, a rural area south of Rome frequented by thousands of Indian migrant workers.
Declaring the incident to be an "act of barbarism," Labour Minister Marina Calderone told Parliament of Singh's passing. Working with local authorities, the Indian embassy in Italy is trying to get in touch with Singh's family to offer consular help.
Singh's arm was cut during his field job, according to the Flai CGIL trade union, and he was left near his residence rather than getting care right away. The Indian embassy issued a statement on X stating their awareness of the sad incident and their continuous assistance of Singh's family.
The Flai CGIL trade union claims that Singh's company mistreated him, throwing him "like a bag of garbage." Authorities are looking at the situation right now, and Marina Calderone underlined the hope that those guilty would be punished. Singh was working without appropriate legal papers, said AFP, and his wife and friends informed authorities of his situation, which resulted in the air ambulance being sent.
Described as a "defeat for civilization," the center-left Democratic Party denounced the regional worker exploitation. They showed their support for Singh's family and underlined the double trauma he was through: dangerous working circumstances and the desertion most certainly jeopardizing his survival.
On Facebook the party said, "We demand truth and justice for Singh's death and commit to fight against the exploitation and agromafia in the Latina province."
