Frames of Legacy International Film Festival Celebrates Prasanna Vithanage Cinematic Brilliance at SACAS

Chennai, March 25, 2025 – The Department of Visual Communication at S. A. College of Arts & Science successfully hosted the two-day "Frames of Legacy" International Film Festival on March 24-25, 2025. This prestigious event was dedicated to the works of acclaimed Sri Lankan filmmaker Thiru. Prasanna Vithanage, known for his thought-provoking films addressing socio-political issues.

Held at the SACAS Preview Theatre, the festival was inaugurated with a traditional lamp-lighting ceremony, followed by a keynote address from Mr. R.D. Balaji, who emphasized the power of cinema in storytelling and social change.

Day 1 featured screenings of "With You, Without You" (2012), a poignant love story set in post-war Sri Lanka, and "Gaadi" (2019), which explores identity and oppression in colonial-era Sri Lanka. Each screening was followed by an engaging Q&A session, where students discussed the films’ historical and cinematic aspects.

On Day 2, the festival screened "Paradise" (2023), a contemporary drama about migration and privilege. A highlight was the podcast-style interactive session with Prasanna Vithanage, where he shared insights into his filmmaking journey.

The festival concluded with a Valedictory Function, where participation certificates were distributed. Mr. R.D. Balaji expressed gratitude to students and guests for their enthusiasm.

The event provided a unique learning experience, reinforcing cinema’s role in shaping perspectives and sparking meaningful discussions.
